Privacy Policy
Last updated October 10, 2026
Nest connects students living on campus at UT Knoxville with their roommates, RA group, and building. This policy explains what Nest collects, who can see it, and how to delete it. Nest doesn't show ads, doesn't sell your information, and doesn't track you across other apps or websites.
What Nest collects
- Your UT email address, to sign you in with a code.
- Your profile: name, and anything you choose to add (class year, major, interests).
- Where you live: residence hall, room number, and bed letter, so Nest can put you with your roommates and RA group.
- What you post: messages, plans, board posts, answers to RA polls and forms, sign-up times, statuses ("free to hang out"), and reports you file.
- Notification settings and a push token from your phone, so Nest can send the notifications you turned on.
- RAs: the hall and rooms you cover, and the notices and actions you take as an RA.
Nest doesn't collect your location, contacts, photos, or anything from other apps. If you add an RA meeting to your calendar, Nest only adds that event; it can't read your calendar.
Who can see what
- People in your building can see your name and profile. You choose who sees your room number: your room, your RA group, or your whole building.
- Room chats are only for confirmed residents of that room. Direct messages are only for the two people in them. Group chats are only for their members.
- Your RA sees who's in their rooms, notices you've acknowledged, your answers to their polls and forms, and reports. They only see a private message if someone reports it. In the app: tap your picture, then "What your RA can see."
- Housing coordinators who oversee RAs see RA requests, which RAs cover which rooms, and how many residents have joined.
RAs and most university staff are required to share reports of sexual harassment, assault, or discrimination with UT's Title IX office. For confidential support, use the Student Counseling Center (865-974-2196) or 988.
Services Nest uses
Nest stores data with Supabase (database and hosting in the United States), sends sign-in codes and staff emails through Resend, and sends notifications through Apple Push Notification service. They process data only to provide these services.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays until you delete your account. To delete it: tap your picture, then Delete my account. Your profile, messages, plans, posts, answers, reports, and settings are removed right away. Notices an RA wrote stay with the RA group, without their name attached.
You can also ask us to delete your data, or to send you a copy, at jdohert4@vols.utk.edu.
Who Nest is for
Nest is for college students living in UT Knoxville residence halls and for housing staff. It isn't meant for children under 13, and only UT email addresses can sign up.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app for anything important.
